ARGENTINA: Buenos Aires becomes hub of ephedrine traffic

The murder in mid-August of three businessmen suspected of connections with the drugs trade has lifted the lid on a development few had suspected until very recently: Argentina's transformation into a hub for the trade in ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine, chemicals used in the manufacture of Ecstasy and other designer drugs. Evidence is mounting that this clandestine industry is already moving into the next phase: the local manufacture of the drugs themselves.
